Sizes are internal (carpet) dimensions. Add 9 inches for external walls and 4.5 inches for partitions when you set these out on the envelope.

Designing a 25 × 40

A 20 ft internal width splits cleanly as 12 + 8, or 11 + 3.5 passage + 5.5. The 12 + 8 split is what gives the hall its 12 ft dimension in the schedule above.

The pooja unit goes in the north-east corner of the hall — a 3 × 3 ft niche is enough and it does not cost you a room.

If you want a car porch, the 5 ft front setback plus a 10 ft driveway apron gets you a workable 10 × 15 ft covered bay.
